Senate President  David L. Williams

Sen. David L. Williams has served in the General Assembly for 23 years and is currently the longest serving member in the Senate. Williams serves as co-chair of the Legislative Research Commission and is the chairman of both the Senate Committee on Committees and Rules Committee.  He also serves as a member of the Senate Education Committee, the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Senate Transportation Committee. Williams currently represents the 16th District, which contains six counties along the Tennessee border, stretching from Monroe County to Whitley County.

He was named the Republican Legislative Leader of the Year by the National Republican Legislators Association and served as the group's president. He was also recognized as Legislator of the Year by the non-partisan American Legislative Exchange Council. He chaired the Southern Legislative Conference in 2006 and continues to serve on the executive committee of the Council of State Governments. He is in line to chair the council in 2010. 

He was born on May 28, 1953 and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1975. In 1977, Williams earned his law degree from the University of Louisville in 1977 and was admitted to the Bar in 1978. He is a practicing attorney in Burkesville and is married to 40th District Judge Robyn Edmonds Williams. Together they are raising Madeline and Andrew.
