Tobacco-Free Schools

  • A healthy workforce starts in our schools. We can prevent nearly one in three Kentucky students from smoking by adopting 100% tobacco-free school policies and appropriately enforcing them.
  • Kentucky high school youth tobacco use rates (26%) are 62% higher than the national average (19.5%), and each year in Kentucky, 2,900 additional youth become daily smokers.
  • Kentucky's smoking rate is 60% higher than the national average, with the second-highest rate of adult smokers in the U.S.
  • The Kentucky Chamber believes if we are to strengthen both educational outcomes and health for tomorrow’s workforce, we must prevent our youth from becoming addicted to tobacco.
