The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce was named State Chamber of the Year Monday night at the annual conference of the Council of State Chambers (COSC). Pennsylvania was named first runner-up and Nebraska second runner-up.

The annual competition is designed to highlight best practices among state chambers of commerce and entries are judged in six categories: public affairs, political action, communications, membership development, membership services and organizational development.

Among other accomplishments, the Kentucky Chamber highlighted the success of its business agenda during the 2017 General Assembly, the creation of the Kentucky Chamber Workforce Center and being the first chamber in the country to create its own news bureau with a professional reporter to produce state government news content for a business audience. The news site, KyChamberBottomline.com, also serves as the Frankfort bureau of the Lane Report, Kentucky's premier business magazine.

Chamber President and CEO Dave Adkisson accepted the award on behalf of the Kentucky Chamber and said, "This is great recognition for our organization, our 60-member board of directors made up of the top business leaders of Kentucky and our staff of 30 professionals at our headquarters in Frankfort. Our slogan is 'Uniting Business, Advancing Kentucky'. Our team is passionate and works hard every day to create progress for our Commonwealth."

Bill Lear, the Kentucky Chamber Board of Directors Chairman said, "This is an enormous honor for the Kentucky Chamber and a testament to the leadership of Dave Adkisson and the entire Chamber staff as well as the dedication of our board members."

COSC is the professional association for state chambers and has offices in Alexandria, VA. Adkisson served as chairman of the COSC board in 2014. In 2012, the Kentucky Chamber organized other state chambers of commerce and helped launch the State Chamber Policy Center which is headquartered in Alexandria, VA and is managed by MultiState Associates, Inc.

The Kentucky Chamber is the largest business association in Kentucky and represents the interests of 68,000 employers in the state. It ranks tenth is size among the nation's state chambers.
